Leslie Helpert

Leslie Helpert, composer/performer is a native of the U.S., but spends most her days in Europe.  She has been writing music from age 5, playing guitar for over 20 years and completed her formative studies at Berklee College Of Music and Naropa University in the U.S.  
Her inspirations are literary genius Nikos Kazantzakis, painter Marc Chagall, Harmelodic Music by Ornette Coleman and innovative, ergonomic architecture.  Her music is highly prosaic, full of well-articulated imagery and rich, sometimes shrill chordal voicing.  She is a teacher of voice and yoga both and the dexterity of her music is informed by life sciences.

We interrupt this recession to bring you news of another crisis:

VERMIN

1. noxious, objectionable, or disgusting animals collectively, especially those of small size that appear commonly and are difficult to control, as flies, lice, bedbugs, cockroaches, mice, and rats.

2. an objectionable or obnoxious person, or such persons collectively.

3. animals that prey upon game, as coyotes or weasels.

But it is not "the system" that failed, as they would like us to believe. People failed.

When you're on your deathbed, how much time will you spend wistfully thinking, "If only I'd bought the smaller plasma TV. . ."?

DR.FISHEYE

Dr.Fisheye tells stories like early pop-music performances, by using language, improvisation, interaction, and intensive use of acoustic and electric instruments. To accommodate the heavy improvisation, the songs are based on classic jazz standards and self-written arrangements, compositions and text. The result is an intriguing new sound, that relates to sounds from Bill Evans to the late electric Miles Davis concerts to Pink Floyd and Soft Machine.

Concept
The tour is an allegory of a traditional trade journey, in which inland's commodities find their way to export ports in the coast. 
Each performance will focus on a product on sale; the product will be given new meanings, and its value will be redefined.
Film director Lassi Markus King will be filming the performances and the mishaps of tour life. 
 
During our performances we will sell previously obtained goods and buy new ones with the profits. 
The project starts in Berlin when, at our first performance, we will sell a product brought from Finland. 
The profit of the sale price will be used to buy a product or products to be used in the following performance. 
At the end of each peformance, the value of the product will be realised and the earnings will be invested as profitably as possible.

Performance by Ieke Trinks

For three days Trinks (1977, Rotterdam) will work in the AWA space to prepare her performance.

'I want to focus on a certain movement and sound by using it in a repetitive way'.

Monday evening you are welcome to witness the result, which will be presented in a live process.

'I've always have had a big interest in every day movements we make without being much aware of it. For example, what is actually happening when somebody is picking up his phone? Using methods like, focus on the non-moments and deconstruct-reconstruct it, gives me the possibility to analyze the unnoticed actions'.

Next to her solo work, Trinks is active in two collectives. One is the 'Neandertaler' duo, which focuses on performance and food in private locations and 'Trixter' which is a group of artists whose work is based on improvisation in the performance art.

Picture during the performance 'Act 1, 2008,   at Ruimte X, Tilburg.

The performance takes place during a party. The performer is dressed somewhat clown-like and is a member of the audience. The performer sits, walks around, makes small-talk, observes, drinks, attempts to snatch peanuts and smokes. Afterwards a report of the performer's experience has been made. This report, combined with pictures of the particular evening and a discreet male voice-over, are put together into a video.
