‘Inflating the self imagined for a day’
An effort to create a participatory art that will socially engage local habitants with guest ‘artists’/’interventionists’ is in the idea of this project. The three artists/conceivers of this exhibition on site, Panayiotis Michael, Demetris Neokleous, and Panicos Tembriotis, offer a range of objects/'tools' for participants to display, dress up, or make use of, in whichever way they desire. A podium is withheld for each interventionist to engage with. Rise up to the sky; break through your desire; make yourself visible. The performance suggested here is formed in a podium on which each participant can take her/his instant stand – a place on which to be 'risen', 'inflated', 'desired', and from which, during their time of performance, he/she will be photographed and video-recorded. Displayed objects include cable wires, electrical appliances, a saw, a hoover, for example, containers of water, heaps of soil, chunks of charcoal, and piles of paper. If super heroic idolatry is an act against defiance and an affirmation of how celebrity status has replaced western ideologies and invaded our poetics of a collective activity, this project brings us in touch with the value of transforming desires and its engagement with others through collaborative gestures. 23:00 Concert : My Sauce Good (Sydney) My Sauce Good is a tasty Australian acoustic trio of violin, vocals and guitar, playing addictive French Swing, original tunes, soulful Latin-American folksong, a haunting Hebrew lullaby, Bohemian Jazz from the 1920’s onwards and contemporary songs given a new lease of life… Uniquely Australian, My Sauce Good is fun, flavoursome and stylish with a cheeky edge. The musicians’ diverse cultural and linguistic origins reflect the country’s lesser-known history of migration and dislocation, longing and belonging, of identities lost, challenged and reclaimed. The group has been going from strength to strength with memorable performances at a selection of Australian music festivals and, hip Jazz clubs such as Surry Hills’ 505, and major theatres such as The Seymour Centre, Riverside Theatre, The Art Gallery of New South Wales, to mention a few. The band is proudly promoting their new self-titled cd. |
